Our Story

In the beginning John O’Connor purchased the operating business Thompson Toyota. The name changed to O’Connor Toyota and the new company with all of the original employees opened for business on September 1, 1976.

The building on the corner of Yale & Hocking stood on 2.75 acres and is the same building we are located in today. The original design intentions were customer orientated with a large showroom, outside covered display area, large service, parts and office areas. The company was awarded the very coveted 1978 TIME award for top achievement in Toyota’s “Totally Integrated Marketing Effort” program in Parts, Service and Sales Performance.

The franchise was changed to Chrysler on June 1, 1979, and the name became O’Connor Motors Ltd. Doing business as O’Connor Chrysler.

Both the Chrysler and RV dealerships experienced excellent growth in the early 80’s and O’Connor RV needed a home of their own. in 1983 John acquired the property at 44430 Yale Rd from Coast Tractor. After renovations to the building, the collision repair facility and O’Connor RV dealership moved in.

Expansion and development has become a normal part of our existence. Another building located at 44840 Yale Rd was purchased in 1986 and the body shop relocated to it’s new ultra modern facility to become O’Connor Collision.

Properties adjoining the developing O’Connor RV Centre were acquired and with the removal of a house and 250 truck loads of fill, the display area was expanded west.

The Chrysler Corporation bought out American Motors and became the manufacturer of Jeep/Eagle and O’Connor Chrysler became O’Connor Chrysler Jeep Eagle. With this new franchise appointment in 1987 O’Connor Chrysler Jeep Eagle became one of ten dealerships in BC to represent Chrysler in all three franchises. – Dodge, Plymouth and Jeep.

1990 O’Connor RV expanded again to takeover the Bus Britton Electric location and create a modern self-serve RV Parts Store. In 1992 we renovated the old RV parts area to accommodate a service office and later the reception area. Expansion continued with the aquisition of the adjoining property of Dairyland and the Highways Dept. This produced a Freeway frontage of 911 Feet.

Over at Chrysler we needed to expand and improve our customer areas so in 1993 the Tunbridge and Tunbridge property was purchased for future Chrysler Vehicle Sales/Service development. In 1996 the Tunbridge building was demolished to make more room for our sales department. Construction began on August 24, 1997. The “new” building was constructed in three phases. Phase 1 involved the total renovation of the showroom area, inside and out. Phase 2 involved the addition to the service shop area and renovation to the exterior. Phase 3 gave us a complete new adjoining building which contained a fast lube area, additional showroom area and office space. On November 20, 1998 we held our Grand Re-Opening to the new Chrysler store expansion.

Our results have been excellent and they are a results of a team effort.
